The organisation offers a variety of APA and Corporate-sponsored scholarship and award opportunities to our undergraduate student members. Our scholarship packages range in value from $500 to $1,000. Award Categories
1. Corporate Scholarship 2013
Goal: To encourage academic excellence and leadership development among African –Australian university students in the engineering disciplines.
Eligibility:
- Minimum Required GPA: 3.5
- Must be a paid up member of APA
- Major in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Petroleum, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Applicants must submit a 300 word minimum essay in response to the following question:
- “What advice would you offer fellow engineering students to motivate them to make academic excellence a priority in their university career?”
- "Why has academic excellence been a priority in your university career, and how do you influence fellow engineering students to follow your example?"
- Applications will be evaluated and APA will select the recipient.
Recipient may also be considered for a work experience with the sponsoring company if available.
Application Requirements:

- Transcript of last completed semester grades and resume can be email to chairman@apaau.com.
- Essay– can be email to chairman@apaau.com.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation - at least one from the College of Engineering (i.e., Department Chair, Dean of Engineering)
Award: $1,000 Scholarship Award
Submission Deadline: July 31, 2013
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST have a CONFIRMED GPA between 3.5 and 4.0 for your application to be eligible for judging.
2. Corporate International Studies Scholarships 2013
Purpose:
- To promote sponsored Company’s commitment to global diversity programs
- To create national exposure for sponsored Company’s to potential recruits
- To encourage and reward academic excellence
- To provide a financial support mechanism for international and domestic university students
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be of African descent attending an accredited university in Australia.
- Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA, NOT be graduating prior to December 2013
- Major(s): All Engineering and Applied Science Majors can apply
- Essay: Applicants must submit a 250-word maximum online essay/statement describing how they will use their education to make a positive impact on the African-Australian community, contribute toward a more sustainable world in a personal or business manner, and how this scholarship opportunity will advance their career goals.
- Applications will be evaluated and APA Program representatives and the Scholarship sponsor will select the recipient(s).

3. Living the APA Mission Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is designed to reward three (3) APA student members who serve as an example of what APA members strive to accomplish academically.
Requirements & Documentation:

- Confirmed grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and above.
- Official Transcript must include most recent semester
- Must be a paid up member of APA
- Essay: (500 Words or less)
- One of the biggest issues within engineering and health sciences is retaining freshman from their first semester all the way through graduation. What advice would you give to an incoming freshman in engineering and health sciences to help them progress to the next year? If you were his or her mentor, how would you provide support?
Amount: $500
4. "Academic Success: Helping Others" Scholarship
Description: APA believes in the phrase that says “nobody makes it alone”. Success is best enjoyed when it is shared. This scholarship is designed to recognize students who is helping not only themselves but helping others to succeed academically.

5. "Pipeline Development" Award
Description: One of the missions of APA is Pipeline Development. Pipeline Development ensures that APA will be a strong organization for many years by supporting young African Australian students from grade school, colleges or university to industry.

- Please explain how you have contributed to helping this mission becomes a reality.
Amount: Award worth of $200 (No cash given)
6. "Our Vision is our Message" Award
Description: APA is passionate about what it does regarding living of is vision and not just saying it. This scholarship is for members who “live the Vision.”

- Provide examples of how you have excelled personally, succeeded professionally and impacted the community.
Amount: Award worth of $200 (No cash given)
7. Financial Need Based Scholarship
Purpose: African Professionals of Australia understands how challenging lives might be for some students who have to work part time in order to transition through college and university. Some have to balance taking classes and working in order to pay for school expenses. The purpose of this scholarship is to lend a bit of financial relief to APA members who need help paying for expenses (books, rent, etc.) so that they may focus on succeeding in school.
